On October 16, Centennial College held the Official Groundbreaking Ceremony for its Ashtonbee Campus Renewal project. Centennial began the long awaited Ashtonbee Campus Renewal project to expand and modernize the facilities of its oldest campus. The Project includes the renovation of about 48,500 sq. ft. of the existing space and construction of approximately 40,000 sq. ft. of space for a new Library, Learning Centre, Student Services area, Student Centre and bookstore. The project also involves adding roughly 5,500 sq. ft. to the existing gym. When completed, the Ashtonbee Campus will have consolidated student services functions and faculty spaces, and significantly expanded Library and Athletic areas. The entire project is expected to be completed sometime in 2015.
The Ashtonbee Campus Renewal follows on the heels of the transformation of Centennial's Progress campus. In September 2011, the College opened the doors to its new state-of-the art Library And Academic Facility, a LEEDS certified four-storey building that was designed by the award-winning architectural firm, Diamond and Schmitt. At the same time, the newly renovated Athletic and Wellness Centre was open for students. In addition, Centennial took possession of the Scarborough Centre for Alternative Studies attached to the Progress Campus B-Block in June 2010 and renovated it to create the new A-Block.
