Tough Game for the Colts!

The Colts challenged the Seneca Sting and were unable to leave with the victory. The Colts were defeated 69-56.

For the first time in season play the Colts Andre Bell had an off game. He didn't lead the Colts in scoring which quite possible could be the difference in the Colts winning and losing this game.

Andre finished with 8 points. Eldridge Masuka carried the bulk of the load finishing with 15 points this game.

Kareem Rodney and Atil Williams did a solid job of rebounding for the Colts coming down with 7 boards each.

The Colts are finished playing for this semester. They will have 11 more games to play in the second semester. The Colts will be participating in a tournament hosted by Sheridan College during the break.

The Colts will return to league play on Saturday January 9, 2010 when the will be hosting the La Cite Coyotes.

Colts break the Golden Sheild

The Centennial Colts took a long trip down to Sudbury to challenge the Cambrian Golden Shield. In the last 4 years Centennial has been heartbroken by Cambrian especially in their gym. The Colts have lost important league games, playoff wild-card births, and even a very disappointint end to last year's season.

In the early goings of this game it looked as if history was going to repeat itself. The Colts only got offensive fire power out of 6 players, and some early foul trouble for their big men. The Colts found themselves down at the end of the half 37-26. Andre Bell was the high scorer at the half with 10 points.

In the second half the Colts were able to go on some scoring runs, and they were able to make some key stops. The Colts held Cambrian to 29 points in the second half, while dropping 43 pints to help themselves out. Andre Bell once again led the Colts in scoring in the second half. He chipped in with 16 points which included 3 of 5 3 pointers. Andre finished the game with 26 points.

A lot of the Colts success in the second half was in part by Atil Williams who chipped in with 11 points. Atil went 5 for 8 in free throws in the second half/game. Atil had 12 rebounds, 7 of which were offensive. Atil also had a blockshot. Atil Williams has done a solid job rebounding for the Colts throughout the year and has been a consistent pressence especially on offensive rebounds.

The final score was 69-66 in favour of the Colts.

Results against Durham College.

In the Colts last game against Durham College the Colts came out the gate firing on all cylinders. Momentum was clearly on the side of the Colts. Shots were dropping, all the right bounces and calls were in favour of the Colts, and the Colts looked aggressive and hungry.

Based on the looks on the faces of the Lords, they were confused and didn't know what to do.

The Colts were able to carry 2 a point lead into the second half

In the second half a different Colts team came out to play. The Colts started to rely on jumpshots instead of aggresive drives at the basket, and the momentum that they had in the first half swung to the Lords. Along side with some calls that didn't favour the home team the lead and eventually the game went to the Lords.

The Colts will have to regroup quickly as they have to travel down to Cambrian and challenge the Cambrian Golden Shield.

Traditionally this is a very difficult environment for the Colts to play in so their best effort as well as very keen eye for detail will help the Colts come away with a victory.

Colts vs Durham

The Colts are looking forward to their next home game. Centennial will be hosting local rivals Durham College on Wednesday at 7:15 pm at Crother's Highschool in Markham.

Over the years the Colts and Lords have been responsible for producing some of the most exciting and entertaining games in the OCAA.

Durham is ranked 3rd in the East and is currently sitting on a record of 4 wins and 2 losses.

The Lords will definitly prove a challenge for the defence of the Colts as the Lords have 5 players that average double figure points in score each game.

One of the keys for victory for the Colts will be their ability to protect the basketball. Durham has 4 players in the top 10 for steals in the OCAA.

The rebounding ability of the Colts as well as #34 Atil Williams will definitly be another key point for the Colts in order to secure a victory. Atil leads the Colts in rebounding, and is ranked #5 in rebounding. Right behind at #7 is Durham's Eric Smith.

Good luck Colts!

Colts Tip Start the Season!

On Wednesday October 14, the new look Colts took the court at Bill Crothers Secondary School. So many things looked different for the Colts. New uniforms, new coach, new court, new players and a new style of play.  Amidst so many changes the Colts still played hard, however they were on the losing end of a 89-68 loss. The Colts were led in scoring by poised veteran guard Andre "Goods" Bell.  Andre pitched in with 17 points for the Colts. Bell also collected 3 rebounds and 1 steal. The Colts are going to need even bigger numbers from Bell throughout the season.

In 2007-2008 the Pickering Trojans went 70 - 2 and won the OFSAA "AAAA" championship.  “I look forward to the challenges ahead and am confident we will continue to build the Centennial Men’s Basketball team back to a perennial contending program. We want players to be proud to wear the uniform and represent Centennial College.” Jim is a Physical Education and Science teacher with the Durham District School Board and a Kinesiology graduate from the University of Waterloo.  Joining Jim at Centennial as an assistant coach is David Joseph.  David and Jim have been coaching tandem for years and “it did not make any sense for me to accept the Head Coach position without David Joseph in the mix”.
