Centennial's School of Business expects that its students will perform at a high academic level. This doesn't mean that everyone must receive an "A" in every course; they must, however, pass all courses that are assigned to them. The Student Success program provides the student with the incentive to reach higher, to try harder. The program, which includes a reduced courseload and in-person advising, provides the intervention techniques to assist students who are not passing their courses.
How does Student Success work?
-
Regular status students who receive any "F" (fail) grades within a semester and/or fail to achieve a term GPA of 2.0 are placed on Academic Probation. They are notified of their change in status when final grades are posted.
-
Once a student is placed on Academic Probation, they are given a reduced workload.
-
Their timetable will contain any missing English and Math courses and they will be required to repeat failed courses. Additional courses are then added, in accordance with the model route sequence (the courses that are needed to complete the program, in the order in which they should be taken).
-
When all assigned courses within a term are successfully completed, they are promoted to regular student status.
-
While on probation, if a student withdraws from one of their assigned courses, they will be permitted to continue their studies.
-
If a student fails from more than one course, they will be placed on academic suspension. This suspension will last for two semesters.
-
Re-admission may be sought to resume studies at Centennial any time after the end of the academic suspension; students re-admitted will maintain a probationary status.
-
Students that are suspended for a second time will not be permitted to resume studies in the School of Business.
