Infection Control

Infection Prevention and Control - PI-100

This course is approved by the CHICA-Canada (Community and Hospital Infection Control Association of Canada) for newly-appointed infection control personnel.  Students will learn the planning, implementation, management and evaluation of infection prevention and control program.  This course is offered both onsite and online:  The onsite classroom-based course includes ten full days of lecture and runs every Spring and Fall semesters at the Centennial College Residence.  The online course is a filmed version of the October onsite class. The online Blackboard is available to students in December with reading material then officially starts beginning of January; lectures finish end of April and entire course completes end of July.  Examination will take place 3 weeks after the lectures followed by a series of 6 case scenarios, due every 2 weeks, to be worked online with an assigned group of students.  If you are interested in the course, please:

  1. An up-to-date resume providing a complete outline of the applicant’s education and professional experience; and
  2. An email note of reference from an IPC (Infection Control Professional) who has agreed to act as the applicant’s mentor for the course especially for the 6 case studies; and
  3. An application email covering of approximately 200 words that details reasons why the applicant is interested in taking the course as well as previous work experience that the applicant considered as assets to the role as an effective infection control professional. 

The applications will be reviewed and an offer will be sent to successful applicants for registration into the course.

 Dates for 2010-2011:

  • inclass PI-100-801   October 25,2010 - November 5, 2010 for lectures then continue with group work online until Feb 23, 2011
  • online  PI-100-425   January 6 - April 6, 2011 for online lectures then continue with group work online until August 3, 2011
