Academic Scholarships and Awards
There are many scholarships and bursaries available to students for work well done. Provided by local employers, organizations and individuals, these awards are a testimony to the enormous amount of community and corporate support Centennial College has attracted over the years.
Answers to Most Commonly Asked Questions
How do I know what scholarships are available?
Centennial's Academic Scholarships and Awards are based on academic, artistic, athletic or other abilities, and often factor in extracurricular activities and/or community service work. An application is not required for these scholarships. However, only those students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and above are considered for these awards.
Are the Academic Awards based on cumulative GPA only?
Not necessarily. Students are selected for an academic award upon meeting all criteria outlined by the donor. Most often, this includes being enrolled in a particular semester of a given program with the highest cumulative GPA for that program.
For students transferring between programs, it is important to note that consideration for an academic award is dependent on you meeting the criteria outlined by the donor. This means that if an award requires you to be enrolled in the 2nd semester of a program with the highest cumulative GPA, you ought to be enrolled in the required program and semester, and have a GPA recorded under that program. The GPA for the program you are transferring from cannot be considered. The Student Financial Services Office cannot assume liability for incorrect information reflected on student records.
Are there academic awards for International Students?
Yes. There are some depending upon donor criteria.
How will I know if I have been selected for an Academic Scholarship or Award?
Students are notified via their myCentennial email within 24-hours of being selected as the recipient of an academic scholarship or award.
I was approved for a Scholarship but now my status is Part-Time. Will I still be eligible to receive my Scholarship?
Students are approved for scholarships upon meeting the scholarship criteria. If you withdraw from studies or reduce your course load to part-time prior to the issuance of your scholarship cheque, you will no longer be eligible to receive the scholarship.
When can I expect my Scholarship Cheque?
Centennial hosts a formal award ceremony each year to acknowledge those students who have done exceptionally well in their studies. All recipients are sent an invitation to attend this grand event where they are able to sit with the donor of their award, and be congratulated in front of a large audience for their academic achievement. It is at this event that students are awarded their cheques by the respective donor(s). A formal dinner and entertainment is provided for recipients and their families at this grand event.
I was not able to attend the Award Ceremony. When will I receive my cheque?
You will be contacted a week after the ceremony to pick up your cheque at your campus. If you are unable to pick up your cheque from your campus, we will mail it to the address reflected on your student account upon receiving written authorization from you to do so.
Is there a deadline for cashing my Scholarship Cheque?
All cheques are valid for a period of six (6) months from the date of issue. Cheques not cashed within this six (6) months period become stale-dated and will not be honored by any financial institution. The Student Financial Services Office cannot issue cheques to students after their last study period end date, and therefore we strongly recommend that you cash your cheque once it is received.
I have misplaced or lost my Scholarship Cheque. Can it be replaced?
Your scholarship cheque can be replaced provided six (6) months have not passed since it was issued. Simply visit the Student Financial Services Office of your campus with two pieces of Valid photo ID and complete the Cheque Replacement form. Please note that the process can take anywhere from 2-4 weeks because an investigation is done before a new cheque is re-issued.
Will I receive a T4A for Scholarships received?
Yes. Students will receive a T4A for scholarships received within the calendar year (January - December).
