Child & Youth Worker

Your Advantage

Child and Youth Worlker Program

Centennial Child and Youth Workers are mental health professionals who provide treatment and counselling to children and adolescents who are emotionally, behaviourally or psychologically disturbed or who are experiencing troubles in their life. They provide life-changing guidance and support through knowledge of human behaviour, emotional development and mental illness combined  with skills in communication, treatment and teamwork.

Benefit from a highly supportive faculty group who have extensive teaching and field experience and a program which features extensive practical experience in a wide variety of field placement settings.  Students have the opportunity to specialize in a particular area through choice of placements and in selection of projects which suit their interests.

Centennial graduates are able to gain two full years of university credit towards a Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Work through articulation agreements (Ryerson and University of Western Sydney).

Career Outlook

There is a high demand for Child and Youth Workers in agencies that serve troubled youth including residential and day treatment programs, school boards, hospitals, crisis centers and shelters.  Centennial graduates are very well recognized among many hospitals and treatment centres because of their clinical focus and job readiness.  Over 95% of our graduates are employed in the field.  The average salary range after graduation is $32,000-$43,000 yearly.

Your Commitment

The Child and Youth Worker program is a six semester (three year) program which may be taken full time or part time or, if you are currently working in the field, through a government-funded Apprenticeship program.  In addition to classroom and project work, there are field placements in all three years of the program which vary between two and four days per week, providing students with valuable opportunities to integrate classroom learning into practice. Costs for full time study are approximately $1700 per semester.

Our Commitment to You

Centennial will afford you every opportunity to transform your motivation, effort and willingness to learn into a satisfying career where you are able to make a difference in children's lives.  At every point along the way you have access to the knowledge, expertise and personalized attention that will allow you to become a true helping professional in your chosen area.  We are also committed to providing you the support to learn and work effectively within today's diverse cultural and social environment.
