Ruth Hall joined the OSEB program in June 2007 and in August 2007 Ruth launched Ruth's Cakes and Pastries. Ruth has infused her cake creations with her passion and love of baking and the results are inspiring. Ruth's Cakes and Pastries offers a selection of beautiful specialty cakes for all occasions including weddings, birthdays, graduation celebrations and religious functions. To grow the company's mission into reality, Ruth's Cakes and Pastries offers a beautiful product made from the highest quality ingredients, carefully decorated with exquisite hand-made sugar roses and other motifs designed for each occasion. Ruth Hall brings to her business a solid background of training including cake baking and decorating diplomas from George Brown College and the McCall's School of Cake Decorating. Ruth has also won numerous awards and is currently a member of the International Cake Exploration Society and the Canadian Society of Sugar Artistry. Ruth's most valuable marketing tool is her own "sweet" personality and her amazing passion for all things sugary. She attends church functions and delights participants with her sweet samples. As a result, her business has enjoyed steady growth and people go out of their way to find occasions so that they can order cakes to offer their guests. Ruth also attends networking events and volunteers to bring cake; a strategy that has earned her a loyal and enthusiastic customer base and a referral base as well. As part of her mandate for growth, Ruth strives to develop relationships with wedding planners, hotels, restaurants and banquet halls. In the future, Ruth will open a retail store front location in Pickering where she can display her sample cakes and her beautiful sugar flowers, each unique in design. Ruth's Cakes and Pastries is becoming a sustainable business that is producing an average of $2500.00 in monthly revenue. Ruth acknowledges that her business foundation was laid through her participation in the OSEB training. And, while we know that OSEB helps people get on the right track and stay on it, there has to be the commitment, drive and enthusiasm to succeed on the part of each participant.
