BScN Collaborative Degree

Your Advantage

Collaborative Nursing Degree

The Bachelor of Science Nursing program is committed to developing highly competent and knowledgeable nursing leaders who are committed to helping shape the future of health care.  Graduates are prepared to work with people and communities of diverse backgrounds, ages and degrees of health and illness in a variety of contexts.  Students complete professionally-related courses in areas such as anatomy and physiology, nutrition, ethics, psychology and sociology, as well as a series of required and elective courses selected from other disciplines to enhance and support the broad knowledge base required of professional nurses.  The curriculum has five themes:  Primary health care and health promotion, reflective practice and critical thinking, meaningful relationships, caring and communication, political and social justice, and personal and professional development.

By selecting Centennial for your first two years of the program you benefit from the same high quality program as our partner sites offer but with the advantages of  a smaller academic setting, personalized attention, a student mentorship program and a state-of-the-art campus with excellent computer and hospital laboratory resources.

Career Outlook

Graduates of the Ryerson, Centennial and George Brown Collaborative Nursing Degree program are eligible to write the College of Nurses of Ontario registration examination to receive Registered Nurse designation.  Graduates have a variety of nursing opportunities available in acute and chronic hospital settings in both urban and rural centers and opportunities to work within the community promoting health and providing care.  A recent study commissioned by the Canadian Nurses Association predicts that by the year 2011, there will be a severe shortage of nurses.  This shortage could mean from 59,000 to 113,000 nurses will be needed.

Your Commitment

This is a full time four-year collaborative nursing degree program offered through a partnership of Ryerson University, Centennial College and George Brown College.  Successful candidates have a strong desire to make a difference in the lives of others, excellent communication skills and experience working as a team member. Students complete the first two years at Centennial and the final two years at Ryerson.  Benefit from a variety of rehabilitation, complex care and acute care hospital and community placements in the greater Toronto area.  University level tuition fees apply, approximately $4,700 per year. You may be eligible for a 1st year bursary of $1,000 (Tuition and application process fees are subject to change).

Our Commitment to You

Centennial will afford you every opportunity to transform your motivation, effort and willingness to learn into a satisfying career where you are able to make a difference in people's lives.  At every point along the way you have access to the knowledge, expertise and personalized attention that will allow you to become a true helping professional in your chosen area.  We are also committed to providing you the support to learn and work effectively within today's diverse cultural and social environment.
