The Circle of Champions consists of a gathering of cross-sectoral industry experts that meets with Centennial College's President and Executive Team to advise on high-level industry trends, needs and opportunities.
Licensed Automotive Service Technician and Truck & Coach Technician with over 25 years’ experience working in the bus maintenance department at the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). As the Senior Manager - Shops, I’m responsible for planning, directing, managing, staffing and controlling the work activities of both Duncan & Harvey Shops. The shops employ over 600 workers in various trades, the main activities of the shops include engine replacement, brake relines, collision & structural repairs and refurbishing the TTC’s buses and
streetcars, as well as, rebuilding many components that support these vehicles.
Americo Viola is Director, Technology Strategy Program Management Office for TELUS Communications Inc. in Toronto, Ontario, a position he has held for the past 5 years. Americo is a licensed Professional Engineer. Americo has been with TELUS for the past 15 years within various capacities including: Manager of Engineering, Manager of Planning and Network Planning Manager. Prior to that, Americo worked as a Senior Project Manager for Marconi Communications, AT&T, and RAND Engineering Consulting Firm. He has been working in the communications field for the past 18 years.
Americo is from Toronto, Ontario, he completed his Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering at the University of Toronto where he graduated with honors and ranked 4th. Americo is currently doing his MBA at the University of Victoria in British Columbia. Americo is in a fast moving, ever changing field and is fully aware of the importance of being current and up to date on information, especially technology and telecommunication systems.
Andrew joined EllisDon in 2015 as Director, Sustainable Building Services. He is a leading authority on emerging energy technologies, high-performance building design and low-carbon economics. Andrew has extensive experience acting as a Special Advisor to industry leaders developing innovative solutions for the global marketplace and he supports trade and investment opportunities across North America, Europe and Asia. Andrew is also a Council member at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities in Ottawa and a member of the BRE Global Standing Panel of Experts (UK).
Among his professional accomplishments prior to joining EllisDon, Andrew is the former Executive Director of the World Green Building Council (2007-10) where he also acted as Member Representative for the United Nations Environmental Program. He was the founding Executive Director of the Canada Green Building Council, Toronto Chapter (2005-2007), and represented the Canadian government at international events through the offices of DFAIT and CMHC.
Jonathan is an innovation leader in the Canadian aerospace sector. He joined Bombardier Aerospace in 2010 after an extensive career in the automotive industry (23 years) with General Motors – both in Canada, and internationally. In his role at Bombardier Aerospace, Jonathan is responsible for innovation / patent activities, and the 'strategic technology' (R&D) portfolio of projects for Bombardier’s Toronto based activity. Jonathan is currently leading Bombardier Aerospace’s R&D efforts in the area of aircraft interiors and cabin systems. In addition to his research responsibilities, Jonathan also has responsibility for University / College Relations, and Government Relations in Ontario, and is very active on various sector policy initiatives to improve aerospace sector growth in Ontario, and across Canada.
Jonathan is currently the vice-chair of the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE), and will be President and chair of OSPE in 2017. Jonathan also sits on the Ontario Advisory Board for NSERC, and is the vice-chair of the Green Aviation Research and Development (GARDN) initiative. Jonathan is active on the AIAC (Aerospace Industries Association of Canada) Technology and Innovation Committee which is helping to influence government policy on research funding for the sector. Jonathan is an active member of the Downsview Aerospace Innovation and Research consortia – which supports the vision to create an aerospace campus hub for research and training at Downsview Park.
Marg Middleton is a tireless community advocate with a thirst for community building and a passion for connecting people and groups with opportunities for success. Marg is currently President of the Scarborough Business Association, a new organization giving Scarborough businesses opportunities to network, opportunities for education and identifying needs of the business community. It's the latest in a long-list of community initiatives benefiting from Marg's love of community and her tenacious enjoyment of community building. Marg is also an executive member of the Scarborough Women of Philanthropy and most recently was on The Scarborough Hospitals Foundation's Kaleidoscope Ball organizing committee.
Marg retired in 2014 as General Manager of Metroland Media Toronto (a division of Metroland Media Group Ltd.), which publishes nine community newspapers, various magazines and a variety of niche products in the City of Toronto. Marg thrives on her ability to make a difference through creating partnerships and as a long-time resident of Scarborough, she is dedicated to the betterment and prosperity of the community.
Mark Bathurst is V.P of Business Development at Vertex Precision Manufacturing, the owner of Dellcom Aerospace, Aero-safe Technologies and Aero-safe Processing. He joined Dellcom Aerospace in 2010 as General Manager with a focus of expanding Dellcom’s technology and processing capabilities for exceptional customer responsiveness and support. Mark’s current role at the parent company, Vertex Precision Manufacturing, is to generate new business leads for Dellcom and Aerosafe in the Aerospace, Defence and Sat-Com markets. Mark is also heavily involved in driving the application of best machining practices and technologies across the organization.
Prior to joining Dellcom, Mark had more than 2 decades’ experience working with a manufacturer of connectors and backplane assemblies for the international aerospace, military, industrial, and gas & oil markets. His duties included developing new business representing millions of dollars in revenues, managing and improving production facilities across a global enterprise, liaising with major international clients, managing compliance with strict security requirements such as ITAR, and managing a team of marketing professionals and design engineers to ensure complex and sensitive customer technical specifications were consistently met or exceeded.
Dr. Margolian has worked for more than twenty-five years on defence, intelligence and security issues within Canada’s federal government. He joined the Department of National Defence in 1990, and assumed key roles in several high profile initiatives, including the 1994 Defence White Paper. Shortly after 9/11, he joined the Communications Security Establishment as Director of Strategic Policy, developing an in-house policy capacity that helped position the agency effectively in support of Canada’s anti-terrorism agenda. After an assignment at the Correctional Service of Canada where he led its Research Branch through a restructuring exercise, Dr. Margolian returned to National Defence in November 2007 as Director General Policy Planning. In that role, he led the team that produced the Canada First Defence Strategy and broke new ground on cyber security and biometrics policy. Between 2011 and 2014, Dr. Margolian was Chief of Staff at Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC), responsible for the Agency’s planning, partnerships and S&T capability management. Based at DRDC’s Toronto Research Centre since September 2014, Dr. Margolian currently provides advice and support in all matters relating to the laboratory’s external relations.
Michael Mazza, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Scarborough Hospital Foundation, is a champion for health care and has an impressive background as an innovative fundraiser and leader. Since joining The Scarborough Hospital Foundation team in March 2009, Michael has aggressively worked to strengthen donor relations in one of the world’s most diverse communities. His tagline “Strong Communities Build Strong Hospitals" has played a key role in educating a largely new Canadian community about the role it plays in having access to great health care and the importance of unity to achieve The Scarborough Hospital's vision of being recognized as Canada’s leader in providing the best health care for a global community.
Michael has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto and is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Association of Health Care Professionals and holds the professional designation, Certified Fund Raising Professional (CFRE).
