30%Off Ontario Tuition Grant

You could be eligible to get 30% off your college tuition this fall.

What students will receive?

Eligible students may receive $1680 for university and college degree program students and $770 for college diploma and certificate program students

Students are eligible if:

  • They are a full-time student at a public college or university in Ontario
  • It’s been less than four years since they left high school
  • They are in a program that they can apply to directly from high school
  • Their parents' gross income is $160,000 or less
  • They are a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident or a protected person
  • They are an Ontario resident

How to apply:

Students who already receive OSAP don’t need to do anything - they’ll automatically be considered. If eligible, the grant will be deposited directly into their account or mailed to their school-year address.

Students who do not currently receive OSAP can apply online. Before starting, they need:

  • Their own Social Insurance Number (SIN) number
  • Their parent(s)’ Social Insurance Number (SIN) number(s)
  • The information from Line 150 from their parent(s)’ 2011 Canadian Income Tax Return(s).

To complete the application, students need to:

  • Go online at http://www.ontario.ca/30off
  • Register for an OSAP Access Number
  • Fill out and submit the online application form
  • Print and have the parent signature page signed
  • Submit the signed page to the Financial Aid Office at their school

For new students:

Students can apply for 30% Off Ontario Tuition grant online once they’ve accepted a college or university offer and have decided on the program they’re going to take. If they don’t have all the information at once, they can save their started application for 45 days.

As students fill in the application and choose their school, the phone number and address of their school’s Financial Aid Office is given. This is where they need to send their parental signature page.

For returning students:

If students applied last year, they will still need to apply for 2012-2013, but one application will cover both terms. And the application is simpler. Only their parent(s) must submit a signature page and all required documents will now go to their school’s Financial Aid Office.

When will students receive the grant?

If students apply early, before school starts, they should get half of the grant in September, once their institution has confirmed their enrolment. The second instalment will be paid in January. The money will be deposited directly into their bank account or a cheque will be mailed to the address provided on the application.

If students apply after their program has already started, it may take four to six weeks to process the application once all documents have been received, including verifying parental income and confirming enrolment with their institution.

Deadline for applications:

Students have until 90 days before the end of their study period to apply. For example, if they’re in school from September 2012 to April 2013, they must submit their application by January 2013.
