Dear Students: As one of Ontario's 24 Community Colleges, Centennial has been part of system-wide negotiations with the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) which represents faculty. The parties are re-negotiating the collective agreement between Colleges and Academic staff that expires on Friday, August 31, 2012. Today, OPSEU asked the Ontario Labour Relations Board to schedule a strike vote for September 6, 2012. The Union says it has made the request in an effort to quickly resolve the negotiations. Requesting a strike vote is a common practice during labour negotiations and this does not necessarily mean that there will be a labour disruption. The College respects the bargaining process and the right of Union members to negotiate a fair and equitable agreement. Updates will be posted on our website and on myCentennial whenever we have important information to share with you. We thank you for your patience and understanding at this time. With respect, Ann Buller |
