DEL Gym set to close in January

After serving the Centennial College population and Scarborough community for 30 great years, the DEL Gym at Progress Campus will close in January to make way for the construction of the Athletics and Wellness Centre (AWC). The Centennial College Student Association Inc. (CCSAI) is funding the project, which is slated to open in the fall of 2010, as a result of the student referendum that supported the Athletic and Wellness Centre Build Fee.

The AWC will be a state-of-the-art facility featuring a triple gymnasium, squash courts, 80m indoor track, climbing wall, Wellness Treatment Centre, cardio-fitness area, locker rooms and two aerobic studios. The current outdoor soccer pitch will be upgraded to a Sport Turf field that will include a support building with change rooms and concession booth in the future.

The Athletics and Recreation Department will be providing alternative recreational programs and services for students through facilities in the community. The department has been temporarily relocated to the Student Centre (Room 2A and 2B), and looks forward to student feedback as the Athletics and Wellness Centre takes shape.
