Centennial students of First Nations and Metis heritage are invited to attend a professional conference of energy producers held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in downtown Toronto, November 18 and 19. Ontario-based Aboriginal students interested in working in the energy sector in the disciplines of engineering, policy, law or business can apply for subsidized registration at the annual Canadian Power Conference and Networking Centre, hosted by APPrO, the Association of Power Producers of Ontario. The subsidized entry fee, which is provided with the sponsorship assistance of Ontario Power Generation Inc., is designed to attract young people to the massive energy field. The Ontario power industry is hungry for new recruits and APPrO wants to be sure every interested student has the opportunity to explore the full range of career options. Aboriginal students are of particular interest because of the potential for new generation development in or near their traditional lands, especially in the north. The partnership between APPrO and OPGI will allow students who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford to attend a professional conference to come and learn about what the electricity business has to offer them. It's a rare opportunity for students to meet people who are interested in hiring for some of the most interesting and challenging jobs anywhere. More information is available on the association at www.appro.org and APPrO 2008 at http://conference.appro.org.
