Afghan Canadian journalist to speak at the CCC

Ahmad Zia, an Afghan Canadian journalist, who works for the largest independent newspaper in Afghanistan, will be the featured speaker at the CCC. Mr. Zia is based most of the year in Kabul, but his family has lived for nearly ten years in Toronto, after fleeing the Taliban. He has a law degree and a broadcasting background, speaks 5 languages, and has worked for the past several years with NGOs rebuilding his homeland, all the while helping his brother put out Kabul Weekly. He thinks Canada is wasting lives and money in his country, reports on corruption in the currrent Afghan government regime, and fears life has not improved enough in his homeland for ordinary Afghanis since the fall of the Taliban in 2001.
