Evacuation of East York Campus, Oct. 13

Centennial's Centre for Creative Communications in East York was the subject of a bomb threat yesterday. The threat was of sufficient detail that the police determined to take the caller very seriously. Toronto Police coordinated a thorough search of the facilities with the assistance of staff, faculty and maintenance personnel. After the search, police required that the entire building be evacuated by 11:30 am. Employees and students were told to collect their belongings and to go home for the remainder of the day. Continuing Education classes were also cancelled. Once the campus was emptied and secured, Toronto Police Services continued their search of the property. The campus was declared safe for occupancy on Tuesday evening. This morning, a debriefing session was organized for Centre employees and students. Two student counsellors were on hand for individual consultations. A Q&A session was held and the feedback will be incorporated in our planning processes. Students and employees were thanked for their cooperation during yesterday's incident. The incident tested the college's Emergency Preparedness Plan, which revealed a high level of compliance and cooperation as events unfolded yesterday. Centennial College is highly responsive to the needs of our community and strives to keep its campuses safe and free from all forms of violence and harassment.
