Occupational Health and Safety Partnership Courses with the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE)

Founded in 1949 and with over 4500 members, the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE) is the leading health, safety and environmental organization for practitioners in Canada. They work with industry, governmental agencies, and other safety organizations to promote a greater awareness of health, safety, and environmental issues in workplaces and communities across the nation and around the world. Their vision is "An Advocate for Safety in Every Workplace."

The CSSE mission is to be the resource for professional development, knowledge and information exchange to its members, its profession and the Canadian public.  CSSE’s website is located at www.csse.org.           

The CSSE also promotes excellence in professional consulting within and to business and industry and government agencies through its Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) designation.  CHSCs provide consultative leadership in workplaces and communities across the nation and around the world.  The designation signals to employers, colleagues, clients and to the public that the OHS professional has met prescribed academic and experience standards and received specialized training beyond technical knowledge and skills in the field.

Certified Health & Safety Consultants abide by the CHSC Code of Conduct and are qualified to add the CHSC designation after their names.  Detailed information about entry to the CHSC program can be found at ‘CHSC Designation’ on the CSSE website. 

Obligations and Liabilities of the OHS Professional

Obligations and Liabilities of the OHS Professional is one of six required courses to be completed towards the CHSC designation.  The two-day course highlights the obligations and potential liabilities that may be encountered by the OHS professional when providing advice in the area of occupational health and safety and determining ways to mitigate those risks. The CSSE has partnered with Centennial College to have the course available through its Continuing Education program. 

Students who successfully challenge the CSSE Exam for Obligations and Liabilities of the OHS Professional may apply the course later towards an application to the CHSC program. Measurement and Evaluation in OHS Managed Systems
- prescribed course for the Certified Health & Safety Consultant (CHSC) designation

Measurement and Evaluation in OHS Managed Systems
is one of six required courses to be completed towards the CHSC designation.  The two-day course highlights key measurement and evaluation techniques that are used to support the development, implementation and maintenance of today’s OHS processes and systems. The CSSE has partnered with Centennial College to have the course available through its Continuing Education program.

Students who successfully challenge the CSSE Exam for Measurement and Evaluation in OHS Managed Systems may apply the course later towards an application to the CHSC program. Consulting Skills for the OHS Professional - prescribed course for the Certified Health & Safety Consultant (CHSC) designation

Consulting Skills for the OHS Professional is one of six required courses to be completed towards the CHSC designation. This two-day course reviews the functions and roles of a health and safety consultant describes the phase of the consulting process; examines the processes of engagement, contracting and needs assessment; provides a conceptual and practical examination of client-consultant interactions and dynamics; reviews client motives and purposes for retraining consultants; and provides instruction in aspects of project and practice management The CSSE has partnered with Centennial College to have the course available through its Continuing Education program.

Students who successfully challenge CSSE Exam for Consulting Skills for the OHS Professional may apply the course later towards an application to the CHSC program. Project Management for the Health & Safety Professional - prescribed course for the Certified Health & Safety Consultant (CHSC) designation

Project Management for the Health & Safety Professional is one of the six required courses to be completed towards the CHSC designation. This two-day, hands-on course is designed to provide health and safety practitioners with the tools and techniques to plan, manage, close and evaluate a project related to the health and safety environment. The CSSE has partnered with Centennial College to have the course available through its Continuing Education program.

Students who successfully challenge the CSSE Exam for Project Management for the Health & Safety Professional may apply the course later towards an application to the CHSC program.
