Diploma Program

Centennial College has responded to the changing demands of the energy market by establishing a diploma program in Energy Systems Engineering Technology. This program develops leaders who can design and implement energy systems to meet the global environmental and energy needs.

The utility sector is currently undergoing a radical shift in operating practice that opens doors to a range of innovative energy projects using small-scale sources such as solar, wind, hydro, fuel cells, gas turbines and biomass to feed electricity, heat and air conditioning to our homes and businesses. The construction industry has adopted a host of new green building initiatives that are quickly increasing awareness and use of sustainable, integrated architecture and engineering practices for new buildings. Manufacturers have many new products that provide ways to implement advanced energy control in commercial and residential structures. Our challenge and opportunity is to learn how to integrate and use all of these modern sustainable energy technologies in a manner consistent with our urban environments.

Through the Energy Systems Engineering Technician program, Centennial College teaches the fundamental skills to understand energy and its uses in modern society. The program is challenging but offers a unique blend of technical, managerial and entrepreneurial skills that are highly sought after in modern energy and sustainable building companies.

Solar Photovoltaic Training for Aboriginals - A Success Story

Centennial College's Solar Energy - Photovoltaics training was exclusively designed for Aboriginal people. The six-week course covered the fundamentals of solar powered electrical generation systems. These include practical considerations related to system design, as well as hands-on installation and safety training. It also covered basic business skills.

The course was followed by graduates accepting opportunities for on-the-job training, self-employment and other work preparation pathways. These were provided through a number of leading organizations in the solar industry who partnered with Centennial College. In addition to the solar training, attendees earned credentials in Fall Prevention (safety), and RETScreen.

If you're looking for a way to step into the renewable energy sector or were wondering what you could do to improve your chances to qualify for electrical trades pre-apprenticeship positions, contact us at cei@centennialcollege.ca.
