Our Business Foundations program is an alternate offering intended for students who have applied to enter a program at the School of Business, but who may not currently meet the English communications admission requirements. If you are highly motivated to build on your existing English language skills and want to develop your understanding of Canadian business culture and practices, you will benefit from this Business Foundations program's inclusive learning environment and academic supports.

The program includes courses in:

  • Strategies for business success

Upon successful completion of the two-semester program, you will be eligible to transfer, with credits, to a diploma or advanced diploma business program at Centennial College.

Semester Note

1. MATH128 prepares students for MATH119, which is a required course for most School of Business Diploma programs. Applicants who test between 21/45 and 35/45 in the MATH Assessment test will be exempted from MATH128, and will take MATH118. Students who score 36/45 or higher will be exempted from MATH128 and MATH118 and will take MATH119 in Semester 1.


2. MATH128, MATH118, and MATH119 (Mathematics of Finance Part 1 & 2) ) are regular Math courses in the School of Business Diploma programs.


3. If a student tests into MATH119 in Semester 1, the student may replace the MATH in Semester 2 with ACCT123 or ACCT112.

Semester Note

1. The ACCT - Financial Accounting Courses listed above are OPTION courses. If a student tests into MATH-119 and completes it successfully in Semester 1, the student may take ACCT123 OR ACCT112 in Semester 2.

2. Upon successful completion of BUSN117 and BUSN118 students will be eligible for a course equivalent towards BUSN119 (Fundamentals of Business) offered in most School of Business Diploma programs.

3. Upon successful completion of FNED193 and FNED194 students will be eligible for a course equivalent towards a GNED (elective) course offered in the School of Business Diploma programs.

4. COMP106 is a required course in most School of Business Diploma programs.

5. Students must achieve at least a C grade in COMM142 and COMM162 to progress to the next COMM level.

Minimum Program GPA of 2.0 (C Grade average) required to graduate.

Academic Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or mature applicant status (19 years or older)

Note:

  • Applicants to Centennial College post-secondary programs in the School of Business with English Skills Assessment scores of 141 are offered this program as a foundation to their program of choice. Applicants with assessment scores lower than 141 must consult with a PASS Advisor at the Centre for Academic English.

Additional Requirements

  • Students will be placed in the appropriate English level based on skills assessment results. This may lead to additional courses and require extra time and fees.

Applicants cannot apply directly to this program.

This program is an "Alternate Offer" for applicants who apply to but do not meet admission requirements for a Centennial College post-secondary Business program.
