In this course, vehicle chassis systems will continue to be examined with a focus on brake systems. While building on the hydraulic brake system fundamentals covered during semester 2 (year 1), various brake assist systems (vacuum and hydraulic) will be discussed. Through theoretical and practical instruction techniques, the operation, inspection, and diagnosis of brake power boosters will be covered along with the use of specialized tools and equipment related to service. The course will also cover an analysis of associated brake system technologies including ABS, traction control, and stability control systems. This course will end by briefly comparing and contrasting the design and operation of hydraulic brake systems to (alternatively used) compressed air brake systems.
