Description:

This course is intended to provide the students with an introduction automotive engine overhaul procedures and the options of repair. It is designed to give both theoretical and practical instruction on generic engines of today’s automobile. Disassembly, component inspection, component repair options and reassembly according to manufacture specifications will be the main focus this semester. The student will identify the specialized tools and equipment necessary to perform service and inspection of the engine short block assembly. The student will also be reintroduced to common engine terms, units of measure and engine types commonly used in the automotive industry.

Students will have the opportunity to practice the skills learned using special tools and measuring instruments in the lab section of the course.

NOTE: Lab work is performed in groups as each group works on an engine following shop manual instructions, filling out and answering questions in the work book, and following instructions by the instructor. The instructor will also demonstrate specialized procedures.
