This 36-week program provides:

  • 32 weeks of in-class theory as well as hands-on lab training 
  • Four weeks of on-the-job, co-op work placement 
  • Co-op training takes place at various Freightliner dealerships or fleet locations within the area of southern Ontario 
  • Training will be focused on the most recent truck and coach technology in a state-of-the-art classroom and lab 
Highly-qualified and experienced faculty members emphasize aspects of heavy vehicle technology that are embodied in the program. This includes the diagnosis and repair of the following course subjects:
  • Electronics and electrical, and computer management systems 
  • Steering, brakes, suspensions, frames and alignment 
  • Transmission(s) manual, automated, automatic 
  • Heating, ventilation and air conditioning 
  • Hydraulics 
  • Engines 
  • Fuel systems (gas and diesel) 
  • Welding – MIG, ARC, gas, cutting, brazing 
  • Tools, equipment safety concerns
Upon successful completion, you will be ready to obtain employment with a Freightliner truck dealer or fleet operator.

Program Highlights
  • You may be eligible to receive E.I. or other government benefit payments during the apprenticeship training period 
  • Training is more in-depth and in-school sessions are longer than traditional apprenticeships. This provides the student with more training than the traditional apprenticeship program 
  • Employers & employees appreciate that this pre-employment training completes the apprentices' college portion of apprenticeship training. It also allows for uninterrupted work schedules

Eligibility
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or GED (General Educational Development)

Additional Requirements
  • Applicants are selected through an interview process
  • Applicants must be able to legally work in Canada

Notes
Students enrolled in a Centennial College Modified Apprenticeship Program (MAP) are Registered Apprentices, in accordance with the Apprenticeship Branch of the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities

For this program student must be prepared to:
  • Provide their own source of transportation to selected co-op work place assignments
  • Provide their own lab coats or coveralls, eyewear (safety glasses), welding goggles and gloves, safety footwear, ear protection (if required)
