Nursing Programs
Your Advantage | Perioperative nurses are skilled, knowledgable RNs that care for patients before, during, and after surgery. Fundamental nursing values (knowledge, skills, and judgment) are ever present and are the basis of the quality of care that surgical patients rely upon and expect. The perioperative nurse has to be able to implement nursing actions to ensure and maintain a safe environment for the patient including the proper use and management of all operating room equipment, sharps, sponge, and instrument counts per policy and implement the safe transfer and positioning of patients using proper body alignment and body mechanics. Centennial’s RN Perioperative Nursing post-diploma certificate program provides students with the benefit of developing a strong theoretical background together with practice in our simulated operating room lab, allowing them to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to practice competently in the clinical practicum. Graduates of this program will function as entry-level practitioners, able to practice according to the Recommended Standards for Perioperative Nursing Practice published by the Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada. Graduates are prepared to function in specialty locations such as hospital operating rooms, labour & delivery suites, ambulatory practice settings and private surgery clinics. | Career Outlook | The certificate awarded refects a high standard and graduates from this program are recognized nationally and internationally. Graduates are employed in surgical settings including teaching hospitals, community hospitals, and clinics such as ambulatory and plastic surgery clinics.
