RPN Bridging to University Nursing
Regional Access Centre Part Time Hybrid Program
Your Bridge to New Opportunities We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Centennial College and to introduce you to the most recent, innovative delivery of Centennial College’s RPN to BScN Nursing Bridging Program. With the growing number of applicants for the Centennial College’s RPN to BScN Nursing Bridging Program coming from outside the Greater Toronto Area, Centennial College is reaching beyond these borders to allow Registered Practical Nurses the opportunity to prepare to advance their practice to a baccalaureate level. Our Centennial College’s RPN to BScN Nursing Bridging Program will now be available in hybrid delivery in two regional access centers (RAC’s), commencing fall 2009. The Woodstock General Hospital in Woodstock and Chatham-Kent Health Alliance will be the first two sites to facilitate our Centennial College’s RPN to BScN Nursing Bridging Program in hybrid-delivery. Centennial College has future plans to deliver the RPN to BScN Nursing Bridging Program to Northern, Eastern, Western and Central Ontario. Upon successful completion of all program requirements, students may apply to the Post-Diploma Nursing Degree Program at Ryerson University, offered by the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing and the Chang School of Continuing Education, which is also offered on-site in hybrid format. NEW SITES FOR FALL 2010 to be decided in MARCH, 2010. Check here for updates. Applications may now be sent in pending the new sites for Fall, 2010. Please follow the application process. | About the Program This program is an academic pathway offered traditionally in flex and full-time formats within our day school to assist diploma-prepared Registered Practical Nurses (CAAT) to bridge to a BScN in approximately three years. Commencing fall 2009, a hybrid delivery format will be offered at two Regional Access Centres (RAC’s) in Ontario, which will allow Registered Practical Nurses to complete the first part of the Centennial College’s RPN to BScN Nursing Bridging Program in six continuous semesters. The goal of this program is to prepare students to be eligible to continue their nursing education at the university level. This program's curriculum is based on the College of Nurses' Standards of practice for nursing and entry to practice competencies for Registered Nurses. This program is offered in three delivery modalities: (i) a full-time, two-semester program, (ii) a flex - three semester (fall, winter, fall) program, and (iii) a hybrid delivery- six semester (fall, winter, spring, respectively) program. Students will apply theoretical knowledge in clinical settings under the direction, facilitation and guidance of faculty. Courses emphasize ethics and professional practice, health assessment, skill mastery and caring for clients with acute and chronic illness, and will provide the foundation for nursing practice. An exciting and unique aspect of the Centennial College’s RPN to BScN Nursing Bridging Program is the focus on caring for individuals, groups and communities in both the acute mental health and community settings. Students will also have opportunities to develop their communication and leadership skills at an advanced level for application in practice. Students will gain an understanding of nursing knowledge and knowledge acquisition, and how research is utilized and applied to complex patient care situations. | Who is this program for? Nurses taking this program may be: - RPN's (Registered Practical Nurses) who hold a diploma from a Community College of Applied Arts and Technology (CAAT).
- Registered Nurses who hold a Certificate of Registration in Ontario and are currently practicing but would like to review their nursing knowledge and practice in an acute medical/surgical or mental health/community settings.
- Ontario Nurses and Internationally Educated Nurses who do not hold a current Certificate of Registration in Ontario and would like to reintegrate into nursing practice.
| Upcoming information sessions Part Time Studies and Hybrid Delivery Access to baccalaureate nursing education in smaller urban areas of Ontario is made possible through Regional Access Centres and a part time hybrid program delivery format. Students will be self-directed, will apply adult learning principles and will gain knowledge through discovery. A problem-solving approach to each course will develop critical thinking and analytical skills as well as broadening perspectives. Part time studies through hybrid delivery allows all the time committed in a traditional classroom environment to be decreased and complimented by learning completed asynchronously online at the convenience of the learner. Students who choose the hybrid delivery program will spend time on-line, and will attend tutorials to support the knowledge. Evidence-based practices and current scholarly literature will be used to heighten the educational experience. Students and professors alike will contribute to on-line discussions and tutorials. The tutorial aspect of the program will be facilitated by professors who are experts in their field. | Academic Requirements For Registered Practical Nurses: Transcripts from a Community College Diploma program with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
