About Us
Health Studies Lab Facilities
The Health Studies programs are located in Centennial’s new campus, the Centennial HP Science and Technology Centre. An impressive building in its own right with a feeling of space, openness and expansive views of the Rouge Valley Conservation Area to the south, this new campus offers superior lab facilities for all of our programs. Situated on the second floor, our lab facilities provide students in the Nursing, Paramedic, OTA/PTA, Pharmacy Technician, Massage Therapy, Esthetician, Spa Assistant and Complementary Care programs with unrivalled opportunity to develop practical skills in environments that duplicate those they will find themselves working in after graduation.
These extensive facilities have demonstrated their value not only to our students but also to emergency-response organizations and hospitals from across the Greater Toronto Area, serving as the ideal environment for staging large-scale disaster simulation exercises. | Nursing Lab Our Nursing lab recreates an actual hospital floor, complete with nursing station and operating room facilities. Students are afforded a highly realistic environment within which to develop and perfect a wide range of nursing skills. In addition to a well-equipped environment, we are now able to offer to our students the advantage of clinical simulation equipment, including Telehealth and highly realistic, computerized “patients.” | Paramedic Lab The Paramedic program is equipped with state-of-the-art lab facilities, which are spacious and student friendly, for instruction and independent practice. Advanced simulation lab equipment is incorporated throughout the program to provide students with leading-edge learning opportunities and "real life" experience. In addition to traditional paramedic equipment, sophisticated and innovative tools, including cutting-edge technology and software, are built into the lab environment, all with an emphasis on preparing the student for paramedic practice. | Simulation Lab Our recently completed Simulation Lab brings to our Health Studies students leading edge facilities within which to develop professional competencies. Extensively researched prior to design and construction, this facility is quickly becoming recognized as one of the foremost labs of it's kind in North America. Representing a significant investment by the college, this facility demonstrates our uncompromising dedication to offering our students and their teachers the best learning environment possible. In addition to amazing digital audiovisual capture and replay capability, this dedication is typified by our acquisition and installation of a fully functional ambulance (except for the siren) within which Paramedic students are able to fully play out scenarios. | Pharmacy Technician Lab The Pharmacy Technician lab simulates both a community-pharmacy setting and a hospital/institutional setting. In this state-of-the-art facility, students can practise receiving, preparing and dispensing medication to patients and nursing units. The Community Pharmacy lab is equipped with 17 computer workstations with retail-pharmacy software, along with all of the equipment and supplies required to prepare and compound medications to be dispensed. The Hospital lab is equipped with wireless laptops and drug stations where students can experience preparing and dispensing all dosage forms, including oral, topical and IV medications. These realistic environments prepare students to excel in their profession within the workplace.
| Massage Therapy Lab Home to our student-run Massage Therapy clinic, our state-of-the-art lab facilities offer students unrivalled opportunity to develop their professional skill. The Massage Therapy lab facility is located just inside the main second floor entrance to the Centennial HP Science and Technology Centre and is integrated with our Spa Assistant and Esthetician lab facilities. | Esthetician Lab Opened in fall 2008, our new Esthetician lab is integrated with the existing Massage Therapy and Spa Assistant lab facilities to provide a unique spa environment. The new facility has a teaching lab and, beginning Fall 2009, a commercial-level clinic open to the public. Centennial students in the Esthetician program will benefit from a brand new professionally-designed facility and have available to them industry standard equipment. |
