Established as Toronto's first public college in 1966, Centennial College offers programs in business, communications, community and health studies, science and engineering technology, general arts, hospitality and transportation.
 

If you have Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent), or if you’re 19 years of age or over, you can apply for this program.

Step One: Apply online at OntarioColleges.ca

Apply to the program online at OntarioColleges.ca. If you are a high school student, we encourage you to work with your guidance office to complete your college application.

The program code is 6401 the College code is CENT, and the campus code is C.

You can also pick up an application form at any Ontario College campus Enrolment Services or Registrar’s office.

Step Two: Receipt of Application Acknowledgement

When your application is processed by Ontariocolleges.ca, Centennial will mail you an acknowledgement letter, program information and an invitation to book and attend a Program Admission Session on campus. Complete details on how to book your session will be provided in the letter.

Step Three: Academic Requirement – English Proficiency

All applicants must demonstrate an acceptable level of English language proficiency for admission to the program. You can do this in one of three ways:

  1. Submit Ontario Secondary School transcripts showing compulsory English 12C with a final grade of 80% or higher, or compulsory English 12U with a final grade of 65% or higher.
  2. Submit transcripts from a high school outside Ontario or a post secondary institution showing a final grade equivalent to the above.
  3. Successfully complete an English Skills Assessment for admission. You can book the Skills Assessment by one of three ways: Book online, or call 416-289-5300
    (press 3 for the Assessment Centre) and one of our representatives will be happy to assist you, Monday to Friday between 9:00am and 4:30pm or visit us in person at Progress Campus (Room D2-05) located at 941 Progress Ave., in Toronto.

Step Four: Program Admission Session

Before receiving an offer to this program, there are additional admission requirements that you will need to complete at a Program Admission Session. You should attend your Program Admission Session as early as possible in the application process. 

During your admission session, you’ll meet with a Broadcasting and Film faculty member and find out more about the program.  You will also complete a writing sample and then submit an admission package based on Option A or B  below

Your mandatory writing exercise will consist of:

  • A narrative essay based on a fictional scenario (provided).
  • A short essay explaining why you think you were meant to be in the Broadcasting and Film Program

Your admission package will contain one of the following:

Option A:  Portfolio

Your portfolio should demonstrate your skill and ability to tell a story using ­any two of the following:

  • Video Tape/DVD
  • Audio Tape/CD/Mini Disc
  • Photo Essay in Digital Images
  • Photo Essay in Photographic Prints
  • Scripted material in any format that was used or designed for an audio or audio/visual production
  • Your portfolio must include, either in writing or on-screen, the role you played in each submitted work.

Option B:  Resume and References

Outline your interest and related experience in broadcast and film media through:

  • A resumé with details of your education and work experience (includes volunteer work.)
  • Letters of Reference (minimum of two)

Step Five: Decision Letter

Within about two weeks of attending your Program Admission Session, you’ll receive a decision letter from the college. When you are offered a seat in the program, you will be able to confirm your offer on your OntarioColleges.ca account.

Prior to your start date, you’ll receive further correspondence including a fees statement.

Please respond to your offer by the date requested to ensure your successful placement in the program.
