About Centennial
Established as Toronto's first public college in 1966, Centennial College offers programs in business, communications, community and health studies, science and engineering technology, general arts, hospitality and transportation.
 

If you have Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent), or if you’re 19 years of age or over, you can apply for this program.

Step One: Apply Online at OntarioColleges.ca

Apply to this program online at Ontariocolleges.ca (formerly the Ontario Colleges Application Service).  If you are a high school student, we encourage you to work with your guidance office to complete your college application.

The program code is 6421, the College code is CENT, and the campus code is C.

You can also pick up an application form at any Ontario Colleges  campus Enrolment Services or Registrar’s office.

Step Two: Receipt of Application Acknowledgement

When your application is processed by Ontariocolleges.ca, Centennial will mail you an acknowledgement letter, program information and an invitation to book and attend a Program Admission Session on campus. Complete details on how to book your session will be provided in the letter.

Step Three: Academic Requirement – English Proficiency

All applicants must demonstrate an acceptable level of English language proficiency for admission to the program. You can do this in one of three ways:

  1. Submit Ontario Secondary School transcripts showing compulsory English 12C with a final grade of 60% or higher, or compulsory English 12U with a final grade of 50% or higher.
  2. Submit transcripts from a high school outside Ontario or a post secondary institution showing a final grade equivalent to the above.
  3. Successfully complete an English Skills Assessment for admission. You can book the Skills Assessment by one of three ways: Book online, or call 416-289-5300
    (press 3 for the Assessment Centre) and one of our representatives will be happy to assist you, Monday to Friday between 9:00am and 4:30pm or visit us in person at Progress Campus (Room D2-05) located at 941 Progress Ave., in Toronto.

Step Four: Program Admission Session

Before receiving an offer to this program, you will need to complete at a Program Admission Session. Make an appointment for your Program Admission Session right NOW! You will need to bring your portfolio. At this session you will meet with a Faculty member, who will assess your portfolio and ask you questions about your experience, commitment to the arts and expectations.

There are two criteria:

  1. skill level, and
  2. demonstrable passion and dedication to the fine arts

Entrance to the Fine Arts Studio Program is based on this interview.

Portfolio Requirements

Your portfolio will consist of no less than 8 and no more than 15 pieces of work. Examples from each of the following are recommended.

  • Sketch books: very important! rough sketches and rough work may reveal more about you and your real ability than your finished pieces. All sketch books count as one portfolio piece
  • Figure drawings: From imagination and observation. Line and/or shading. A selection from one to ten figure drawings can count as one portfolio piece.
  • Colour Work: Colour work may be abstract, figurative or objective.
  • Space, Volume and Perspective: Include images that demonstrate your ability to convey a sense of space/distance and a 2D depiction (drawing/painting) of 3D volume (rendering, shading)
  • Your own work: Work done on your own, outside of school assignments will carry more weight.
  • Personal energy and engaging overall composition are key to all your portfolio pieces
  • NO copies of photos or other art works please, no matter how good.

The following are optional: Sculpture and 3D work, Printmaking, Photography, Creative writing & poetry, crafts, documented performance art, documented installations, computer generated artwork, videos, etc.

Portfolios can be presented in original form, as reproductions, and/or digitally as jpgs on memory stick or disk.

You will NOT be asked to leave your portfolio. You may take it with you once your Program Admissions Session is complete.

Step Five: Decision Letter

Within about two weeks of attending your Program Admission Session, you’ll receive a decision letter from the college. When you are offered a seat in the program, you will be able to confirm your offer on your OntarioColleges.ca account.

Prior to your start date, you’ll receive further correspondence including a fees statement.

Please respond to your offer by the date requested to ensure your successful placement in the program.
