Art Design Programs FAQs

What is the purpose of this program?
Careers in the area of art and design include graphic design, fine art, interior design, computer art and design, animation, new media design, special effects and illustration to mention a few.

Competition for programs that teach these more specialized programs is intense and many individuals need to enhance their skills and knowledge in order to be successful.

The Art + Design Foundation Studies program at Centennial College is a two-semester course of study providing thorough instruction in all of the visual art related subjects required for entry into subsequent programs and for eventual success in your chosen career.

What is unique about the Centennial program?
The differences are size, range of courses and location. This program accepts fewer students than many other visual art fundamentals programs and is thus able to provide personal instruction and guidance as each student explores their career possibilities while developing their skills and competencies.

Our program of study blends traditional subjects such as life drawing, painting and sculpture with computer-based digital subjects such as digital imaging, digital art and design and introductory courses in animation and special effects. We are centrally located in Toronto, Canada’s most vibrant cultural environment with access to museums, galleries and design centres.

Where do your graduates go?
After successful completion of the program, production of a mature portfolio of artwork and earned credits*, there is virtually nowhere you can’t go. Our graduates enter college programs in graphic design, interior design, new media design, animation and illustration.

* Some college and university programs require credits earned in secondary school as well as successful completion of the program.

** Successful completion of the Centennial program and a grade requirement may apply.

Is a portfolio required for admission?
It is beneficial to have previous art and design experience and education but this is not a requirement for entry into the program.
