Book + Magazine Publishing
Denise Schon, Program Coordinator Denise Schon has worked in the book publishing industry since 1979. Her most recent in-house position was Vice President and Publisher of Macmillan Canada. She left there in 1995 to start a book packaging company, producing full-colour cook books and gardening books for publishers in Canada and the U.S. She has co-published books with many magazines, including Canadian Living and Chatelaine. She has worked at ELLE Canada, TV Guide, Elevate and The Toronto Sun, and has contributed to FASHION, Best Health, Reader's Digest, MoneySense, Tribute, HGTV, Food Network and W Network. She is the author of two novels, Stuck in Downward Dog and Love Struck | Peter Willson Peter Willson is Associate Publisher and Director, Consumer Marketing, Rogers Publishing. Peter, in late 2005, was selected to be the first full time employee for the launch of the international franchise of Hello! Canada. While guiding it through it's August 2006 launch, Peter has ridden the topsey-turvey path of any new title, to today witness it as the #1 English Canadian magazine on the newsstand. While director of Retail Sales at Rogers, Peter was awarded the Newsstand Marketer of The Year in 2005. Together with the retail team, he has made a major contribution to the growth of retail sales at Rogers Publishing. Peter has had a hand in many aspects of the industry since his start in publishing at the Financial Post in 1985, including launches, relaunches, redesigns, special interest publications, regular monthly and weekly issues. | Giorgina Bigioni Giorgina Bigioni is a seasoned magazine publisher. She has had a 20 year career in magazine publishing in Canada. Most recent, she was V.P. Group Publisher at St. Joseph Media (Key Media). She has published FASHION, FASHION18, Weddingbells, Gardening Life, Wish, Canadian Family and Where Toronto magazines. Her career in magazines started in 1982 at Chimo Media, a small independent publishing company where she had responsibilities in editorial, production, administration, marketing and even ad sales. She eventually went to Flare in advertising sales. She graduated from Centennial College in 1978. | Trevor Stewart Trevor Stewart is an award-winning graphic designer who has been working in the publishing industry since 1996. He has worked as an art director on several publications, most recently Canadian Grocer, voted one of Canada's most influential magazines, and Flare, Canada's fashion magazine. Trevor currently works as a freelance designer specialising in print, web and branding. Trevor's interests include design, photography, illustration, typography, film, music, skateboarding and interactive entertainment. | Erik Mohr Erik is a creative director, art director, designer, photographer, illustrator, and artist based in Toronto. He has been working in the magazine industry for over 10 years. Erik's talent for combining visual narrative and elegant design has built a career spanning the full gamut of creating - from contributing to managing to launching - award-winning magazines. Some of Erik's custom publishing clients include: Air Canada, Bell Canada, Investors Group, Canadian Tourism Commission and Fairmont Hotels and Resorts. Erik's art direction has received numerous industry awards including the Society of Publication Designers, Canadian National Magazine Awards, Art Directors Club of Canada and Magazines du Québec. | Cooper Langford Cooper Langford is deputy editor at Financial Post Magazine, where he has worked in senior editorial positions for the past five years. Before joining Financial Post Magazine, Cooper spent six years as editorial director at Up Here Publishing, based in Yellowknife, N.W.T. In that role, he served as editor of Up Here, the company's flagship Arctic travel and culture magazine. He also also oversaw the editorial aspects of the launch and ongoing operations of the company's business-to-business magazines, Far North Oil and Gas and Canadian Diamonds, as well as the creation of its custom publishing operations. | Saffron Beckwith Since 1994 Saffron Beckwith has worked with Kate Walker & Company, which represents a broad range of Canadian and international publishers. She manages a sales group of six and is part of the team that brought Canada Harry Potter. | Marg Anne Morrison Marg Anne Morrison has worked in publishing for over 25 years: for Between the Lines Press, Annick Press, and Key Porter Books. She now has a consulting and management services business, Morrison Publishing Management. She sits on the Freedom of Expression Committee of the Book and Periodical Council as a representative of the Editors’ Association of Canada and is the Director of the Organization of Book Publishers of Ontario. | Alison Maclean Alison Maclean has worked in book publishing since 1986. She has held senior editorial positions at Canadian and international firms, taught in the Simon Fraser and Humber College publishing programs, and enjoyed a successful career as a freelance editor and project manager. After several years as Associate Publisher at Madison Press Books, Alison is now the Managing Editor at John Wiley & Sons Canada. |
