The name describes multidisciplinary design approach and philosophy of the program. We perceive graphic design and media as two interconnected entities that are important to include in creation of effective design solution. The core of the program curriculum focuses on graphic design but with additional skills in motion graphics. The program develops graduates with multidisciplinary design skills, enabling them to succeed in today’s diverse and demanding industry. How is the Graphic Design Media program different from Graphic Design programs? The Graphic Design—Media Program at Centennial is a five-semester advanced diploma program, including field placement. This program’s goal is to provide students with the Ontario Ministry Graphic Design Program Standard but with additional skills in motion graphics to enhance employment flexibility and opportunity. Program outcomes focus on the design process within an integrated communications environment and stress interdisciplinary applied problem solving. How long is a field placement? The Graphic Design—Media program integrates four months field placement guaranteed for each student. Field placement is offered over the summer after completing forth semester. What is unique about the Graphic Design Media program? There is no existing Graphic Design—Media program at college or university level in Canada that would provide students with the ability to create multidisciplinary design solutions and strategies by integrating the graphic design skills with motion design skills. The program uses immersive learning approaches based on collaborative projects within full communication environment. This approach would enhance employment opportunities for graduates. What are career opportunities for graduates of Graphic Design Media? Our graduates would be able to work on a contract or full time basis in design and advertising companies, magazine design firms, packaging design studios, marketing communication, publishing companies, newspaper departments, multimedia and broadcast design studios. |
