Game Design and Development FAQ

What types of jobs will I be qualified for after completing the Game Art + Design program?
Graduates of this program will be qualified for the following positions: Environment Designer, Character Modeler, Game Animator, Level Designer, Texture Artist and QA Tester.

Will I learn how to do coding for games during this program?
The GD+D program will develop creative game artists and not software technicians or programmers.

Our students will be collaborating with Game Programming students from Centennial College’s School of Engineering Technology and Applied Sciences (SETAS), to build a playable game level.

Are internships available?
Students that pass all of their courses with a minimum grade of 60% in each course will be eligible for an eight-week Industry Field Placement at a game design or digital animation studio.

What are the entrance requirements to this program?
In order to qualify for this program, applicants must have:

  • a High School Diploma
  • a minimum C grade in High School English (international students must submit TOEFL or IELTS scores for evaluation)
  • a portfolio of artwork (10-15 pieces)
  • If your portfolio does not contain any digital artwork, you must also take a test to demonstrate some basic knowledge of either Photoshop or any 3D software package.

What types of software will students of this program learn?
The core curriculum for the GD+D program includes formal and one-on-one classes using the following software: 3DS Max, Unreal Editor, Photoshop, Final Cut Pro and Sound Track.
