What are the benefits of this program? I already have a degree/certificate in engineering (or media production). This is a hybrid program, designed to bring together students with a technology background who have an interest in content creation, and those with training in digital media production who have a demonstrated technical aptitude. Through project-based work and focused instruction, you will broaden your knowledge and skills in all phases of media creation, production and distribution. The ideal candidate will possess an entrepreneurial attitude, an innovative mindset and the ability to learn and transfer knowledge. What kinds of careers are available for a Media Engineering Design Integration graduates? In today's media companies, specialists in technology and media production find themselves working in mixed teams to address the challenges of rapidly evolving technology. The knowledge worker who has the flexibility to attack a problem from both the producer's and the engineer's perspective is becoming increasingly valuable. The ability to ask the right questions is essential to finding a breakthrough solution. Add to that a knowledge of product development, audience analysis and marketing, and the MEDI graduate offers employability skills that place them on the fast track as a producer, developer or project manager. What is required for admission? Applicants must have a university degree or college diploma in engineering technology or media production, or two years of post secondary education (eight university credits or college equivalent). Not sure if you meet the criteria? Contact the Media Engineering Design Integration Coordinator. When should I apply? Seats in this program will fill quickly, so apply now through ontariocolleges.ca. Students applying for this program will be invited to an entrance interview. A portfolio of previous course work and independent accomplishments will be an important asset, as will work experience in a related field. For students unable to come to Toronto, an electronic interview will be arranged, or if that is not possible for international students, two letters of recommendation by professors will be accepted as an alternate. How many seats are available in the program? For the Sept. 2010 semester start: 30 students How long is the program? Semester 1: 15 weeks; Semester 2: 15 weeks; Semester 3: 15 weeks consisting of Classroom & Lab (2 days a week) and Field Placement (3 days a week). Who teaches the students? Some instructors are full-time practitioners in technology and media production who teach part-time in our program. Full-time faculty are active members of professional associations. What resources are available? In addition to the latest in computer technology, and knowledgeable staff and faculty, students have access to a rich source of resource material through Centennial's Learning Resource Centre (LRC). In the first semester, students will receive group instruction and a number of intensive foundation classes in math and electrical engineering basics for media producers, and media production fundamentals for technologists. From day one, lab projects will be a key focus, where you are challenged to identify media engineering challenges and develop innovative solutions. In the third semester students will participate in industry work placements three days a week in addition to two days of classes and project workshops. Describe the campus. Classes will be conducted at Centennial College's main Progress Campus, at Hwy 401 and Markham Road, where the School of Engineering Technology and Applied Science is based. To access specialized media labs, one day of classes (during the first semester only) will be held at HP Campus, located at Morningside Ave. and Ellesmere Avenue.
