About Centennial


Established as Toronto's first public college in 1966, Centennial College offers programs in business, communications, community and health studies, science and engineering technology, general arts, hospitality and transportation.

Apprenticeship is a system of learning by doing. It consists of on-the-job training with an employer and related class studies in college. The on-the-job training component is a competency based format which involves the completion of a Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities issued booklet. Classes are offered either one day a week, two nights a week or eight weeks a year. Depending on your trade, class programs could take two to three years. Apprenticeships vary from two to five years. (The actual duration will be determined by the trade the apprentice has chosen, and how quickly the apprentice acquires the on-the-job competencies)

Centennial College also offers Modified Apprenticeship Programs (MAPs) which include alternative in-school and on-the-job delivery methods. Please see the Modified Apprenticeship Programs (MAP) section for further details.

Centennial apprenticeship programs prepare students for exciting futures as skilled professionals in the transportation field, one of Canada's largest industries. Apprentices can complete their in- school requirements through Centennial College in the following transportation programs:

Upon completion of the in-school training at Centennial, apprentices will receive a Certificate of Completion. At the conclusion of your apprenticeship, you can write the exam for your Certificate of Qualification. Passing the Certificate of Qualification exam means you can qualify for a Certificate of Apprenticeship from the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, and that you are certified in your chosen occupation.

Please note: You cannot apply directly to the college for admission to a traditional apprenticeship. You must first be currently employed as an apprentice.
