The Centennial Board of Governors works actively to identify and recruit industry leaders with strong commitments to postsecondary education and eagerness to join the College in pursuit of its mission to educate students for career success within a context of global citizenship and social justice. We are entering a new recruitment cycle with openings in the fall of 2019 for our dynamic and forward-thinking Board of Governors. Vacancies for 2019 include external appointments and one public appointment secretariat designate. Governors are leaders with passion and skills for:

  • College Legislation and Compliance
  • Finance
  • Legal
  • Risk Management
  • Post-Secondary Education and Research
  • Strategic Planning
  • Performance Management
  • Project Management
  • Community Leadership

Diversity, equity and inclusion are fundamental to our vision of transforming lives and communities through learning. Priorities for the Board include gender balance, Indigenous representation and representation from those who reflect the diversity of the College’s student community.

Knowledge, Skills and Expertise Required

  • Familiarity with budgets and awareness of the importance of long-term financial integrity of the institution; 
  • Understanding of the College and the communities it serves; 
  • Knowledge of Board decision-making and good governance; 
  • Understanding of how organizations function, preferably in a unionized setting; 
  • Understanding the College in the global context with a full range of educational opportunities provincially, nationally and internationally; 
  • Ability to assess and analyze complex information quickly and objectively;
  • Ability to engage effectively in strategic planning and oversight; 
  • Ability to represent the College positively before business, government and community groups; 
  • Ability to assess the quality of service, both educational and management, being delivered by the College; and 
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to deal with conflicting goals and competing interests. 

Time Commitment

Board members serve without remuneration for a term of three years with a maximum of two consecutive terms. The time required includes:

  • One half-day new board member orientation; 
  • Five Board meetings per year (approximately four hours per meeting); 
  • One annual retreat; 
  • Membership on one Board committee with five committee meetings per year; 
  • Preparation time for committee and board meetings; and, 
  • Attendance at a convocation ceremony.
