About Dr. Robert Shea
Dr. Robert Shea is the Associate Vice-President (Academic & Student Affairs), Fisheries & Marine Institute Memorial University, of Newfoundland. His research and teaching has embraced career development, experiential learning, higher education leadership and adult education.
Dr. Shea’s most recent co-published Supporting Students Globally in Higher Education (2016), with Kenneth J. Osfield, Brett Perozzi, Lisa Bardill Moscaritolo and Associates. The authors examine what internationalization concretely means for higher education with a specific focus on student affairs and services. He was a co-lead of Memorial University’s five-year study, Career Integrated Learning Project, which investigated the importance of reflecting on student competencies through curriculum reform.
Dr. Shea is a prolific presenter both nationally and internationally. His university service includes leadership roles as president of national and international associations, including; The Canadian Education and Research Institute for Counselling; The Canadian Society for the Study of Higher Education; the Canadian Association of College and University Student Services; and, the International Association of Student Affairs and Services Association (which represents more than 52 countries). Dr. Shea has held multiple senior leadership roles as Director, Dean, Deputy Provost and currently Associate Vice-President Academic and Student Services.
