No, because experience alone is not evidence of learning. PLAR awards credit for the learning that has been gained as a result of a student’s experiences.
The fee is subject to change each academic year. The fee for 2020-2021 is $160.85 per course, and is non-refundable.
No. Check the course outline to see if a course is challengeable. Program areas, particularity those related to vulnerable sectors, can limit access to PLAR for field placements. These programs may choose to require a minimum of one field placement, regardless of a student’s prior learning or experience.
No. Learners are not eligible to apply for PLAR for Centennial courses they have previously failed.
No. The PLAR process can only be initiated once per course.
Yes. If there is not enough supporting evidence to prove that the learning outcomes have been met, a challenge can be deemed unsuccessful. However, failed PLAR attempts are not recorded on transcripts.
Yes. If you did not succeed in obtaining Transfer Credit, you are permitted to use your learning in a PLAR attempt.
Yes. PLAR credits receive a grade, and they appear on your transcript in the same way credits earned though Centennial college coursework appear.
For certificate, diploma, advanced diploma and graduate certificate programs, no more than 75% of program credits can be obtained through recognition of prior learning. For degree programs, no more than 50% of program credits can be obtained through recognition of prior learning. Students must complete a minimum of 25% of program credits in Centennial’s classroom, distance learning and/or hybrid courses.
The assessor must conduct the assessment within 60 days of the PLAR fee payment.
The PLAR Deadline is the same date as each semester’s Course Change Deadline.

It can. If you do enough Recognition of Prior Learning (Transfer Credit and PLAR) that it causes your status to drop from full-time to part-time, then your eligibility for residency, OSAP, scholarships and bursaries could be impacted. Contact financial aid or your funding organization(s) to determine their specific requirements.
