Did you know that unlike OSAP, scholarships are monies that you do not have to repay?  Scholarships are funds donated by individuals and/or organizations to assist you with the financial challenges of pursuing post-secondary studies. These donors are actually investing in your future career so please take the time to complete an application for those scholarships to which you are eligible to apply.

Answers to Most Commonly Asked Questions

How do I know what scholarships are available?

Students must first complete and submit the Doorway to Dollars Questionnaire (formerly Scholarships and Bursaries Questionnaire) at least once per academic year. Once the questionnaire is completed and submitted, you will receive notifications of scholarships as they become available via your myCentennial email. You will receive a notification email 10 business days prior to the launch of the scholarship or bursary, and a reminder email 3 days before it becomes available online.

Students who do not complete the Doorway to Dollars Questionnaire (formerly Scholarships and Bursaries Questionnaire) will lose out on these valuable opportunities because they will not be notified of the availability of these additional resources to help with their educational expenses.

Where can I find the Doorway to Dollars Questionnaire (formerly Scholarship and Bursaries Questionnaire?

You can locate the questionnaire by logging into myCentennial with your student number and password. Click on "Student", found on the left side of the screen. Then Click on "Financial Services". The "Doorway to Dollars Questionnaire (formerly Scholarships and Bursaries Questionnaire)" link can be found on the new page.

Are there any scholarships for International Students?

Scholarships are available to both International and Domestic Students. Once you have completed the Doorway to Dollars Questionnaire (formerly Scholarships and Bursaries Questionnaire), you will receive notification of only those scholarships to which you are eligible to apply. This means that if you are an International student and you received notification of an upcoming scholarship, you are eligible to apply for that scholarship.

Do all scholarships require the completion of a budget?

No. Centennial College also provides scholarships to students that require a 250 - 450 word outline. For these scholarships, it is strongly recommended that you take the time to respond to the question(s) being asked, and ensure that you have at least the minimum number of words required in order to be considered for the scholarship.

How do I apply for Scholarships?

Once you have completed and submitted the Doorway to Dollars Questionnaire (formerly Scholarships and Bursaries Questionnaire), you will receive an email inviting you to apply for scholarships to which you are eligible. Once the scholarship is open for applications, you will log into myCentennial with your student number and password, and then click on the "Student Awards and Financial Aid" link to start applying for the scholarship.

I keep getting denied for scholarships that require the completion of a budget. Am I doing something wrong?

Scholarships requiring the completion of a budget are those that require the student to demonstrate a financial need that is equal to or greater than the value of the scholarship. Students are asked to enter their living expenses and resources for their current semester (4 months) to determine if they have a financial need. Examples of resources are OSAP received for the current semester, employment Income received during the current semester, the cashed-in portion of RRSP, RESP or Mutual Funds during the semester, Income from EI , OW or ODSP during the semester, contribution from parents or spouse towards your education, etc. A student who has a financial need will have more expenses than resources.

It is important to note that applications containing a $0 resource will not be considered as students are required to have some form of contribution towards their education. if you are not the successful recipient of the scholarship to which you are applying, how then will you be able to pursue post-secondary studies and pay those expenses you were paying prior to your enrollment at the college?

When Will I be notified if I am approved for a Scholarship?

Students are notified 14 business days from the deadline of the bursary via their myCentennial email.

I was approved for a Scholarship but now my status is Part-Time. Will I still be eligible to receive my Scholarship?

Students are approved for scholarships upon meeting the scholarship criteria. If you withdraw from studies or reduced your course load to part-time prior to the issuance of your scholarship cheque, you will no longer be eligible to receive the scholarship.

When can I expect my Scholarship Cheque?

Centennial hosts a formal award ceremony each year to acknowledge those students who have done exceptionally well in their studies. All recipients are sent an invitation to attend this grand event where they are able to sit with the donor of their award, and be congratulated in front of a large audience for their academic achievement. It is at this event that students are awarded their cheques by the respective donor(s). A formal dinner and entertainment is provided for recipients and their families at this grand event.

I was not able to attend the Award Ceremony. When will I receive my cheque?

You will be contacted a week after the ceremony to pick up your cheque at your campus. If you are unable to pick up your cheque from your campus, we will mail it to the address reflected on your student account upon receiving written authorization from you to do so.

Is there a deadline for cashing my Scholarship Cheque?

All cheques are valid for a period of six (6) months from the date of issue. Cheques not cashed within this six (6) months period become stale-dated and will not be honored by any financial institution. The Student Financial Services Office cannot issue cheques to students after their last study period end date, and therefore we strongly recommend that you cash your cheque once it is received.

I have misplaced or lost my Scholarship Cheque. Can it be replaced?

Your scholarship cheque can be replaced provided six (6) months have not passed since it was issued. Simply visit the Student Financial Services Office of your campus with two pieces of Valid photo ID and complete the Cheque Replacement form. Please note that the process can take anywhere from 2-4 weeks because an investigation is done before a new cheque is re-issued.

Will I receive a T4A for Scholarships received?

Yes. Students will receive a T4A for scholarships received within the calendar year (January - December).
