Danny Glenwright is the executive director of Action Against Hunger Canada, an international humanitarian and development organization specialized in fighting hunger and its underlying causes. He is also the managing editor of The Philanthropist, an online journal for practitioners, academics, supporters, and others engaged in the non-profit sector in Canada. Danny sits on the Board of the Canadian Network for Women and Children's Health (CaNWaCH) and is a member of the advisory committee for the Centennial College International Development program in Toronto. A journalist by training, Danny has more than 16 years of experience in the non-profit and media sectors in Canada and internationally – and his work has taken him to more than 60 countries. This includes a stint as managing editor of the Gender Links news service in South Africa, a role with the United Nations in the Palestinian Territories, and media development work in Sierra Leone, Namibia, and Rwanda. He was previously the managing editor of Xtra newspaper in Toronto and the executive director of Journalists for Human Rights. Danny holds a master’s degree in international development from Italy’s Pavia University and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Ryerson University. He has written extensively about gender issues, media literacy, and Canada’s role in international development.
