Note Taking in College

Female nursing student with stethoscope writes a report, with other nursing students faded in the background

''Note taking is a given for success. You need to know how and when to jot down information, but for the time being taking them in general is an asset. Bring any tool at your disposal, be it a pen and notebook or your computer. Computers are great, as they come with built in applications you don’t get otherwise. When I write for instance, I hate making mistakes and having to go back to correct it, my Mac does it for me instantly. When you take notes, remember to write down what makes sense to you, vs. what is written on the board. If you’re just copying notes on the board and don’t understand it, I doubt you’ll understand your own chicken scratch. However, really, the fact that you’re making an effort here is sublime''.   -Stephanie Backus
