At Centennial College, we pride ourselves on producing highly qualified graduates that bring real skills to the workplace. We teach practical, technical skills, and the results show it.

Centennial College's Medical Laboratory Technician Program teaches students the essential competencies they need to pursue a career in the field. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you'll be helping advance medical science, and assist in finding new cures and treatments to better both science and humanity. It's a career that combines science, technology and medicine. Centennial's program is one of the best of its type, both in Ontario and worldwide, and we have the results to prove that claim.

Put to the test

At the end of Centennial College's program, students need to take a Certification Exam to be properly qualified. Students can take the Ontario provincial or national version of the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLW) Medical Lab Assistant/Technician (MLA/T) exam. Students can do one or both tests depending on where they want to work and what they want to achieve. Some may choose just the provincial, some may choose the national, and some may choose both.

The most recent results are in, and they demonstrate our graduates' skills. Put simply, all of our students that wrote the competency exam both Canada and Ontario-wide scored consistently above the average in almost every category, sometimes as much as ten percent higher. We've produced graduates that have significantly high skill levels, and we've tested and proved it. The evidence is in the numbers, as you can see here:

About the program

The Medical Laboratory Technician Program started at Centennial College 14 years ago, and is the only true government-funded program for the job in the Greater Toronto Area.

It's a two-semester program of hands-on training in our medical labs, which cover everything from chemistry, to microbiology, to hematology, and more. All of our instructors are certified medical laboratory technologists, and are members of the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists (CMLTO).

At Centennial College, we'll teach you the skills you need to use science and technology to help people, and the numbers prove that we'll teach you well, making you an above-average candidate. If you're science-minded, and want to use it to better lives, our Medical Laboratory Technician program will put you on the path to success.
