The Centre for Organizational Learning and Teaching (COLT) invites you to read our latest issue of the Teaching and Learning Innovation Digest.

With a focus on student retention, this issue draws on the current research literature to highlight student groups that are most vulnerable to attrition and to identify key factors that impact student retention in post-secondary institutions in North America. Additionally, this issue explores strategies that universities and colleges have taken to strengthen student retention, with particular attention paid to initiatives undertaken by departments, schools and programs at Centennial College.

The Fall/Winter 2017 digest focuses on the changing demographics globally in higher education and explores issues of diversity and difference in the classroom. This edition contains evidence-based approaches for creating and promoting safe, respectful and inclusive spaces in the post-secondary classroom, paying particular attention to how educators manage conflict and how they turn difficult moments or “hot moments” into “teachable moments”. It’s not all articles however Included are practical tools and activities for faculty, designed to build trust, respect, and collaboration among learners.

The Spring 2016 issue of the digest focuses on social media in education. While Twitter is still in its infancy in the context of teaching and learning, the current issue of the digest explores how Twitter is being applied in postsecondary education. The article highlights the pedagogical benefits and challenges that accompany Twitter’s use in education and suggests best practices. The latter part of the issue shared practical examples of the use of Twitter in various postsecondary education fields/disciplines including nursing, engineering, physiotherapy, marketing, math, English and instructional design.
