Important Information about Travelling to Canada

Important Information about Travelling to Canada

There are several special measures you need to be aware of before planning to travel to Canada at this time. If you had a valid study permit or have been approved for a study permit on or before March 18, 2020, you are exempt from the current travel restrictions and may travel to Canada.

Before you travel, you need to have a valid study permit or a Letter of Introduction (study permit approval letter) indicating your permit was approved on or before March 18, 2020, along with other documents you need to carry. For more information, review the Permits and Visas section.

Please remember that airline officials will be conducting a health check, and anyone showing symptoms of COVID-19 will not be able to board their flight to Canada.

Please consider when booking travel to ensure your travel arrangements are refundable should you need to adjust your travel plans. Here's a tip: avoid booking your flight through a third-party service, and book directly with airlines instead. Many third-party agencies will not provide refunds on booked flight.

Face Covering Requirements for Air Travellers

All air travellers are asked to cover their mouth and nose with a non-medical mask or face covering:

  • at Canadian airport screening checkpoints, where the screeners cannot always keep two metres of separation between themselves and the traveller;
  • when they cannot physically distance from others, or as directed by the airline employees; and
  • when directed to do so by a public health order or public health official.

Please visit the Transport Canada website for further information and learn more about the face covering requirements for air travellers.
