Academic Scholarships and Awards
Academic Scholarships and Awards
There’s a lot of scholarships and bursaries available to you for work well done. They’re provided by local employers, organizations and individuals, and serve as a testimony to the enormous amount of community and corporate support Centennial College has attracted over the years.
Frequently Asked Questions about Scholarships
Centennial's Academic Scholarships and Awards are based on academic, artistic, athletic or other abilities, and usually factor in extracurricular activities or community service work. An application is not required for these scholarships. However, only students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and above are considered for these awards.
Not necessarily. Students are selected for an academic award when they meet all criteria outlined by the donor. Most often, this includes being enrolled in a particular semester of a given program with the highest cumulative GPA for that program. If you’re transferring between programs, remember that consideration for an academic award depends on you meeting the criteria outlined by the donor. This means that if an award requires you to be enrolled in the second semester of a program with the highest cumulative GPA, you should be enrolled in the required program and semester, and have a GPA recorded under that program. The GPA for the program you are transferring from can’t be considered. The Student Financial Services Office can’t assume liability for incorrect information reflected on student records.
Yes. There are some depending upon donor criteria.
Students are notified via their myCentennial email within 24-hours of being selected as the recipient of an academic scholarship or award.
Students are approved for scholarships when they meet the scholarship criteria. If you withdraw from studies or reduce your course load to part-time before you’re given your scholarship cheque, you will no longer be eligible to receive the scholarship.
Centennial hosts a formal award ceremony each year to acknowledge students who have done exceptionally well in their studies. All recipients are sent an invitation to attend this grand event, where they are able to sit with the donor of their award and be congratulated in front of a large audience for their academic achievement. At this event, students are awarded their cheques by their respective donors. A formal dinner and entertainment is provided for recipients and their families at this grand event.
You will be contacted a week after the ceremony to pick up your cheque at your campus. If you can’t pick up your cheque from your campus, we will mail it to the address reflected on your student account upon receiving written authorization from you to do so.
All cheques are valid for a period of six months from the date of issue. Cheques not cashed within this six month period become stale-dated and will not be honored by any financial institution. The Student Financial Services Office cannot issue cheques to students after their last study period end date, so we strongly recommend that you cash your cheque once it’s received.
Your scholarship cheque can be replaced if six months have not passed since it was issued. Simply visit the Student Financial Services Office of your campus with two pieces of valid photo ID and complete the Cheque Replacement form. Please note that the process can take anywhere from 2-4 weeks, because an investigation is done before a new cheque is re-issued.
Yes. Students will receive a T4A for scholarships received within the calendar year (January - December).
