How do I become involved in a research and innovation project?
Projects through ARIC often require students from different disciplines to work on applied research and innovation projects. Students are hired as Research Assistants to work on these projects. Job postings are listed on myCentennial or can be advertised through faculty in the required program areas. Students go through an interview process and are selected based on their experience and required skill set. Once hired, students are paid a salary of $15/hour and can work up to 24 hours per week (less if you are on OSAP). Each project has different time requirements and these details will be discussed in the initial stages of the project process.

How do I conduct a research and innovation project?
ARIC has a Student Research and Innovation Fund (SRIF) that allows students to conduct applied research and innovation projects under the supervision of a faculty/staff member. Projects are granted up to $10,000 and must be no longer than one year in length and must be completed before you graduate. The call for proposals comes out twice each year, in the Spring and in the Fall. For more information, please contact Stacey Shipwright at sshipwright@centennialcollege.ca or ext. 8397.

Can I use my Research Assistant experience toward my Leadership Passport credential?
Absolutely! Your work as a Research Assistant on a project can be used toward your Applied Research credential for the Leadership Passport. You need to have the required form signed off by the appropriate ARIC Project Manager and you can hand that in as part of your proof of participation.

Are there any scholarships or bursaries that I can apply for?
ARIC has an Excellence in Applied Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Scholarship. Eligible students will be contacted by Student Financial Services in the fall to complete an online application. Once the online application has been submitted, you must contact ARIC for a Faculty Reference Document. This must be completed and returned to Student Financial Services by the deadline indicated.
