Community & Youth Partnerships
In the spring of 2014, the Centre of Entrepreneurship (COE) initiated an accelerator (ACCEL) to support youth under 29 years who want to start a business. The goal is to assist and 60 youth-led start-ups over 2 years (2014-2016) by leveraging the core competencies of the current and growing advising and mentoring team and expansion of the ecosystem to serve the youth market.
In the fall of 2014, COE expanded its incubation and acceleration offerings by forming a strategic partnership with Wavefront- Canada’s National Centre of Excellence for Canada’s Centre of Excellence for Wireless Commercialization and Research. Centennial COE is now the designated wireless zone for Ontario. Wavefront’s alliance with COE brings in house expertise, knowledge, training and advising in the wireless space resulting in commercialization of businesses and expansion of products and services for existing businesses in the province. Wavefront has a strong global presence and conducts 12 trade and business missions each year. They also have delivered their Venture Acceleration Program through COE that provides leading edge training and technical expertise. A wireless laboratory with various handset equipment has been set up at COE to provide mobile application and usability testing and monitoring.
