||The purpose of this advanced CAD course is to provide the student with the necessary skills to utilize the SolidWorks software to effectively generate three-dimensional models of any mechanical component or assembly. Additionally, the student will also be introduced to those software features which are used: in creating design tables for families of parts or parametric design; for sheet metal work; for orthographic extraction; for sectioning and detailing; for creating fitted and exploded assemblies with balloons and BOMs; and for assembly interaction and physical dynamic testing.
Weekly instruction will be given in one of the SolidWorks equipped labs in a 2-hour session with an emphasis placed on hands-on experience. These sessions will consist of brief lectures (~½ hr) which will introduce new SolidWorks commands, operations and techniques and in-class assignments intended to actively put these commands into practice. These specifically designed illustrative exercises, which will be assigned during the course, will provide the student with the necessary practice for skill development. These assignments/exercises (which sequentially build upon each other) are intended to be completed and submitted by the end of the class or at the start of the next session.
