Course Code ECME-215
Lecture hours per week
Lab hours per week 2
Course Availability: Open
Description:

The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the fundamental concepts and features of the AutoCAD (2D) computer-assisted-drafting program (both the Standard and the Electrical versions of the software). This is a hands-on lab course which attempts to cover as many pertinent software commands and functions as possible in order to help students, with no previous knowledge of the program, to become competent and capable operators. The in-class exercises (which build upon each other) are designed to clearly illustrate the AutoCAD commands while reiterating industrial drawing standards.

Weekly instruction will be given in one of the AutoCAD equipped labs in a 2-hour session consisting of a brief lecture on software theory followed by a lab session, with the emphasis placed on hands-on experience. Session times typically break down as follows: 25% lecture/instruction and 75% in-lab usage of the CAD equipment and software. In most sessions, the student will be introduced to new CAD commands, operations and techniques followed by a specifically designed illustrative exercise that will provide the student with the necessary practice for skill development.

Please note that the in-class exercises are intended to be completed by the end of the weekly session. If an exercise is not finished, the student is expected to complete the work on their own time outside of the scheduled class.
