Description:

This course is design to elevate the student’s knowledge of the braking system, tire and wheel
assembly and the suspension system found on a heavy duty truck or coach. In regards to the
braking system: students will learn about the different functions, construction, composition,
types, styles and application of air brake systems. Students will be taught how to inspect,
diagnose and repair the braking system using the recommended procedures. In the tire and
wheel section: students will learn about the different styles of tire and wheel assembly. They will
study the advantages and disadvantages of each style as well as the safety precautions to be
taken when working on these systems as well. Students will be taught about the principle(s) of
operation of tire and wheel assemblies. They will learn about low and zero maintenance wheel
end assemblies as well as how to how to inspect, diagnose and repair the different types of tire
and wheel assembly system using the recommended procedures. In the Suspension section:
students will study the different types of suspension system, their advantages and
disadvantages as well as the functions, construction, composition, types, styles and application
of each system. Students will be able to visually identify the different types of suspension
system found on truck and coach. The students will also be able to check measurements such
as ride height and driveline angles and explain how they both affect each other. Students will
also be able to inspect, diagnose and repair or recommend repair of different types of
suspension system.
