Course Code CYWP-102
Lecture hours per week
Lab hours per week
Course Availability: Open
Description: This course will introduce the student to the fundamental elements of the counselling process and the development of intra/interpersonal communication skills. Emphasis will be placed on the theory and practical skills necessary to therapeutically respond to troubled young people in a supportive, constructive and culturally sensitive manner. The student's development of active listening skills will be an integral part of this course, and therefore experiential in-class activities will be common. Worker-client relationships based on empathy and respect are essential to helping children and youth explore, clarify, and express their thoughts and feelings, which requires the Child and Youth Worker to be a skilled communicator.
