Description: This course provides a critical understanding of the concepts and meaning of economic growth and development and the link between them from a perspective of development economics. It analyzes classical and contemporary theories on economic growth and development, and their applicability to the developing-country context. Students engage in discussions on factors that promote growth and those inhibiting it, and how to redistribute the benefits of growth to the population in order to achieve development. Case studies around the world will be used to illustrate the challenges facing many developing countries in reaching their growth and development objectives.
