Field Seminar (Blended/Online)

Course Code AMHW-405
Lecture hours per week
Lab hours per week 3
Course Availability: Open

The field seminar course provides students with a ‘capstone’ learning experience, in which students will design a personal portfolio that demonstrates their individual practice model, their academic accomplishments, their practice skills, and their personal and professional goals, which they can use as a tangible demonstration of their knowledge and skills to potential employers in the addiction and mental health sector. A major focus of the seminar is on critical reflection and collaborative problem-solving around issues arising from field placement. Smaller class size provides students with a supportive environment in which they can discuss and demonstrate their familiarity with the policies, philosophies, and practices of their various Field Placement settings, and where they will be asked to reflect on challenging ethical and direct practice issues in order to develop alternate approaches and strategies. The latter part of the course will assist students in developing a competitive resume and cover letter, and will help students to implement concrete job search strategies and interviewing skills through mock interviews with personalized feedback and access to potential employers in the sector.
